Victoria Nuland assures Sri Lanka and Nepal of US support

Nuland announced that the US government will invest over $1 billion in Nepal over the next five years in green energy, electrification, and businesses led by women and under-represented communities with a focus on health, agriculture, and tourism. She urged Nepali officials to protect national sovereignty while dealing with neighbors, particularly on economic partnerships.
In Sri Lanka, the Under Secretary expressed her Government’s support for the on-going recovery efforts in the country.
In the beginning of 2023, travels of senior US officials have increased in South Asian nations including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Among the top diplomats, Victoria Nuland, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, visited Nepal, Sri Lanka and India in late-January.
As Sri Lanka’s economic crisis has escalated into a full-fledged political and humanitarian catastrophe, and Nepal’s new leadership are raising anticipations, Nuland assured stronger partnership with the countries.
